Citation: Under fire of the enemy [at White Oak Swamp, Virginia, on 30 June 1862], successfully destroyed a valuable train that had been abandoned and prevented it from falling into the hands of the enemy.Note: Captain McMahon, originally the commanding officer of a cavalry troop, was serving as aide-de-camp to General George McClellan. He finished the war with the rank of Brevet Major General.
