Citation: All the officers of his battery having been killed or wounded and five of its guns disabled in Pickett's assault [at Cemetery Ridge, Gettysburg, on 3 July 1863], he succeeded to the command and fought the remaining gun with most distinguished gallantry until the battery was ordered withdrawn.Note: Fuger's commanding officer, 1st Lt Alonzo Cushing, was recently recommended for a posthumous Medal of Honor for his actions at Gettysburg.
